Laser hair removal experience

Let's do a little story time on the steps I have taken in my life to get rid of unwanted hair.

BACKGROUND

One time I let my mom wax a small portion of my pits, never again. That hurt like a bish.

In college, I got a can of wax from Sally's, couldn't afford a heater so I would set the can on top of a pan and heat it up. I bought a bag of those popsicle sticks and the cloth you smooth over the wax and would rip away my hairs. Did I really just share that? Yes. I had to warn my roommate that there was some business being handled in our kitchen so to warn me when she got home. HAHA! Anyway, that was my first attempt at ditching the razors on my own. It didn't work out too well as you can imagine and it hurt like hell.

Years went by since that experience and the razor burn was so real. It's true, as you get older the hair just seems to come on even more often and with a thick vengeance. Especially after my first pregnancy.

So 4 months into my second pregnancy I decided that I was going to go to a bikini wax place called the pretty kitty here in Austin. (insert wide eyed emoji). Ladies, it hurt like hell. It was one of the worst pains ever. Truly. I would rate it right up there with child birth. I was even sore a couple of days after with waxing. After the initial time, it did get better but the process to get waxed just doesn't make sense.

You have to grow your hair out 3 weeks prior which is gross and itchy. And again, it hurts every time.

THE SWITCH

I had heard about laser hair removal but wrote it off as too expensive for me. So I was never truly listening. The first year of laser hair removal there is some commitment but at this point in my life I had decided that it was just time to make the jump. Get rid of my hair. Forever. Well, almost. ;) Forever reduced.

I had a girlfriend who heard I was getting waxed and laughed because of how painful it was. I finally decided to hear someone out about there experience. Still decided against it and then once I had my second baby I decided to get my first laser hair removal done in October 2017.

                                                   LIFE CHANGING!!!!

That first appointment is INSANE. After the first week, I would say 80% of your hair just doesn't come back. It's absolutely wonderful. If you decide to tweeze out the hairs that do come back after your appointment, because that's the curious child in me and I had to try it. You'll find that they literally just slide right out because most of the hairs have been zapped from the blood line of the hair follicle.

That was it, I was hooked.

THE COMMITMENT

My laser tech was amazing. Her name is Dawn and she's great. She sat down and explained everything. I'm going to leave her info at the bottom of this post in case you're local.

To make this process the least expensive. You are going to have to commit the next year to this, minimum. Then make it to every appointment every 7-8 weeks during the first year and that's a very crucial window because of the way hair growth works. That's only 6 appointments. Woohoo! The hair cycle replenishes itself at this time and you want to laser the hair before they are detached from the follicle. Don't miss these appointments!

PREPARATION

Before you go in to your appointment you'll want to shave all of your hair before your appointment. How amazing is that? You don't have to grow any hair out. That's why I love this process.

I like to exfoliate my skin the night before and then shave the morning of the appointment. Also to shower so that I am fresh. Since someone is going to be down in my lady parts, if ya know what I mean. Anyway, I love to dry brush my skin because then your skin feels like silk. No joke.

PROCESS

So you take your pants off if you're going for Brazilian and will need to remove your shirt so that your laser technician can reach your armpits or any area that's getting treated. You get to wear these sweet glasses and the technician wears some too.

After you've removed whatever clothing necessary than you lie down on a bed with a thin sheet over you and wait for your technician.

My LHR office used the Candela machine above. They stamp their laser into this pad and off they go. It sounds like a fly dying in one of those insect trap machines every time the machine goes off. It's my best description for the sound. haha.

This is what your legs look like after.
Cleans off with a baby wipe super easy.

Armpit: right after the treatment - very little redness

Bottom legs right after treatment.
Little red bumps that disappear an hour or less after.

Q + A

Does it hurt?

My pain tolerance is pretty low though so take that into consideration. I was told that it felt like a rubber band snapping on your skin but I'd say it was less painful then that. Depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle and sun exposure can also affect how sensitive your skin is.

Can you shave between appointments?

Yasssss girl!

That's the beauty of LHR. Shave all you want and they actually prefer that you shave completely before the appointment.

Does it burn?

No, not at all. They use this cryo blast that shoots off at the same time that the laser is going so you shouldn't feel any burning. I've heard of people getting burned becayse

Is it expensive?

In my opinion, no.

It depends on what you think is expensive. Is it expensive in time and money on razors/shaving cream to shave the rest of your life? I'd say THAT is expensive.

Every 2 months that I go for my armpits, brazilian, inner thigh and bottom leg/feet and it cost me $325 but there are always great deals out there that you can get a great package or initial fees cut in half.

Will your hair eventually never grow back?

The machine, Candela "is known for its ability to provide permanent hair reduction" (source)

You will have to go to maintenance treatments once a year after the first year and then eventually less and less over the years after that initial year of treatments. My technician said that I may have very random hairs that may pop up but for the most part all the maintenance treatments will get rid of MOST of your unwanted hair.

The next day after I get LHR I love self tanning because your skin is ridiculously smooth! I've linked my favorites below.

I hope this helped those who were asking about my experience. I will update this post as I get any more questions that would be helpful to future readers.

Zucchini Chicken patties

Zucchini Chicken patties

Ingredients

1lb. ground chicken
1 1/2 cups of zucchini
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp garlic chopped
3 tbsp of cilantro
3 green onions
3 tbsp coconut oil

*Double the batch for a wonderful meal prep option!

Directions

Finely chop onions and cilantro. Grate your zucchini with a cheese grater.

In a bowl, mix all ingredients together. Turn pan onto a medium heat to pan fry your patties or if you've gotten the griddle  like I've said time and time again. Use that and heat should be at 350. I cooked mine in coconut oil. Use whatever [ healthy ] oil you like to pan fry with though.

Cook each side for 4 minutes each and a third time for 3 minutes.

That's it y'all - SO easy!

Toddler & baby approved - ketchup // avocado mayo optional.

Other ways to use the patties:

Pair with arugula or potatoes.
Top with diced avocado or avocado mayo.
Chop the patties up and toss into a salad.

5ish-minute summer beauty routine

Who else is experiencing extremely high heat and humidity? Shoutout to all my fellow Austinites - where your makeup doesn't have to start melting off the moment you step outside with this simple makeup routine.

BACKGROUND

I have an oily skin type. I do not suffer from many breakouts or any kind of redness. I do breakout though when I do not cleanse my skin well enough during my night time routine or clean my brushes as often I've noticed. I usually go for a semi-matte finish most of the time and I go back and forth between a heavy coverage and lighter. Depends on the occasion. I suffer from dark circles under my eyes with no puffiness. This should help you understand what I need from my makeup and maybe help you decide if you need these as well.

PRIME

Even though the foundation I'm about to highlight has a primer in it, I like to spritz a little primer water on my face. I like this one because it doesn't have silicone in it which is a plus for oily skin.

STEP 1

A lock-it-in-place foundation is key but I prefer a lighter foundation for summer because the caked on look is not cute for summer and the heat/humidity. This BB creme by Tarte is my absolute obsession right now. A pea-sized amount is all you need. I like to apply it with the ELF cosmetics brush that's only $6! [ linked below]

+ BONUS: There's SPF in it. Yassssssss.

This is not spoken about enough at all. Feels very velvety. Love, love, love it!

STEP 2

Do I even need to go over everyone's holy grail concealer? This is a favorite. Love the coverage of it. Hides my dark mama-got-little-sleep under eye area. I go between the shades light and light neutral. I always apply my concealers with a beauty sponge and Ulta has great inexpensive ones.

STEP 3

I do like this Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow pencil. It's super firm so it allows you to really carve out your brows and this pomade is awesome! I usually like the NYX micro brow pencil but have been liking this for a longer lasting look and more bold eyebrows. Highly recommend.

STEP 4

This Milani lip liner in Most Natural is amazing, stays put and is self sharpening. I haven't been into glosses lately but this one by Revlon in Super Natural is beautiful and makes your look more summery. When paired with this liner the color is a beautiful mauvey red.

FINISH

I just picked this palette up from Ulta and it makes my makeup routine QUICK! It has your bronzer, blush and highlight that's not too bright. Sleek and slim. I will be taking this with me on our upcoming trip for sure. I'm honestly not a fan of Benefits box products and that's why I love the way Hoola is packaged here. So much better in my opinion!

GORGEOUS - the beloved Hoola bronzer is in it too!

+ Give your face a couple ( or a few ) more spritz of the Smashbox primer water to really lock your look in and melt your makeup together.

I've linked everything for y'all. Let me know in the comments if you have any of these products or have better products that I need to try.

Target workout outfits - Joy Lab try-on/haul

Ladies, I am such a creature of habit. I can't tell you how many black leggings I currently own. Ah! So I did a little shopping at Target to give my workout clothes a much needed pop of color.

I first purchased a Joy Lab sweater a few months ago and love it. So soft and I actually purchased another in a navy green color as you'll see below. This brand is surprisingly SO cute and won't break the bank. I want to bring affordable content to y'all. So I hope this kind of content helps you. I know not everyone wants to or can spend money on my beloved brand, Lululemon.

I hope you enjoy this fun try-on. Maybe you'll do a little shopping and get some motivation. I always love new workout clothes because I basically live in them and also keeps me looking forward to my next workout.

I have a dress to impress mentality and of course, that means in the gym too.

Have a great weekend babes!

Favorite outfit of the day:

First outfit. I LOVE how these blue leggings feel just like butter, they slide on and are super flattering. They fit TTS, I think I could have also fit into a medium for a little more room. I have a bigger bottom half, not huge let's be honest but I do need my leggings to hug my booty nicely and not flatten it out. These are perfect and I did purchase them. Along with the matching sports bra

This white top is soft, slouchy and flattering with the peek a boo cut out in the back. I purchased this one too because I have a good collection of sports bras so I like to show them off a little. I would size down because it's on the big side. I got small but would have liked extra small.

My sister wasn't a fan of this leopard legging set but I actually really loved the dark maroon color. Just like the blue leggings they slide on and are flattering. I did sort of feel like a cat though. HAHA. So I didn't end up purchasing them. If my sister says no, I usually go with her opinion because she's 17 and knows better I feel. ;)

The sports bra fit so nice too. Medium support. TTS. Comes down about 2 inches too, so it feels nice and snug around your bra line.

I'm wearing the same white tee from above, loving the open back on it.

Hugs your back side nicely. Good for my fellow bigger bottom ladies!

Okayyyy! I need to go back to purchase these black leggings . Do they not scream gym shark? They're the look-a-likes of them for sure. The waist band doesn't squeeze your belly (hello mom pooch) so that's a plus! Size up. I loved the way medium fit me but I'm usually a size small. I have since gone back to purchase these and worked out in them already, they are amazing.

OMG - This green crop top tee !
Going back to grab my size because it was soooo cute and also sexy off the shoulder. Comes 3 different colors. Size up for slouchy fit. Update - I did go back to get this one. So cute!

You can't see but I'm also wearing the matching sports bra that goes with the pants. Also very comfortable and fits well. I also liked the way this matched the pants. It will look funny if you wear it with a tight tank because it's a twist front sports bra.

So I didn't purchase this peach tee only because it was so warm and I felt like the white tee above was more ideal for summer. I still like this one though and the color is beautiful.

I have this one in grey, in small. So soft on the inside. Stays soft even after washing too. Grab size medium for a more slouchy look. This green sweater is soft on the inside and a tad on the warmer side so just keep that in mind for during the summer. It has the cutest slits on the sides though that are fun! Bought this one.

These black shorts are from Lululemon.
